There is a long tradition of imperfect knowledge processing in the field of knowledge engineering. Various approaches and methods have been proposed for vague, imprecise, uncertain, incomplete, ambiguous or inconsistent knowledge representation in last decades. This situation starkly contrasts to little attention paid to imperfect knowledge in current technological solutions.
The objective of the workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners from different communities, to discuss the current state-of-the-art in imperfect knowledge modeling, and to identify key requirements for the future in knowledge engineering and knowledge management.
Areas of interest include (but are not limited to):
- Bayesian and probabilistic methods for imperfect knowledge reasoning;
- possibility and utility theories;
- fuzzy extensions of knowledge representation languages;
- default reasoning and non-standard logics for imperfect knowledge;
- knowledge incompleteness and inconsistency;
- imperfection processing for Semantic Web ontologies;
- searching web services with incomplete or ambiguous information;
- models and implementations of uncertainty reasoning tools;
- the future of uncertainty reasoning for knowledge engineering.
The workshop will be held as a post-conference event of EKAW 2006 (the 15th International Conference on Knowledge Engineering and Knowledge Management, http://ekaw.vse.cz), in Podebrady (near Prague), Czech Republic, October 6th, 2006. It will feature a keynote speech, oral presentations and a poster session with sufficient time for discussions of the issues raised. Authors are invited to submit a full paper not exceeding 8 pages formatted in the Springer LNCS style. Accepted papers will be published in special workshop proceedings published by a local publisher. They will have an ISBN number and can be quoted as a peer reviewed publication. Papers will be presented either orally or as posters. The decision about the presentation format will be based on the recommendation of the reviewers.
Papers should be submitted electronically in the PDF format to: Pavel Smrz <smrz_AT_fit.vutbr.cz> Please use also this email address for any other queries regarding the workshop.
