Applications
From semanticweb.org
This page is intended to provide an overview over remarkable real-world applications of Semantic Web technologies. Note that this is not referring to software tools which have their own space, but rather to examples of successful practical uses of semantics.
Many examples come to mind, but help is needed to explicate and organise all that. Please contribute.
[edit] MyWikiBiz
Created by a disgruntled banned Wikipedian, this wiki directory is different in that it comingles shared, "open" Main space (for general interest topics) with protected, "closed" Directory space (for living persons and legal entities).
It deploys Semantic Mediawiki, so cool tables can be constructed that kick the ass of Wikipedia's crazy categories. A good example is this construction of a table covering commercial airliner crashes.
The site has over 450 registered users and over 35,000 pages.
[edit] SemanticHacker
This site provides remarkable application based on wikipedia data. They give API that will rank a text content based on its relevence to various categories and give numeric weights on each category.
For example
A passage from The Jurassic Park may give something like
"Lierature/Science/fiction 25"
"Movies/Holliwood/Spielberg 30" etc.
They also provides a javascript for visualizing semantic knowledge recovery for wikipedia.
